Welcome to the Future

So then it’s here, the year 2011. Feels a bit like 2010, but then that also felt like 2009, and so on and so forth.

As we all know it’s just a number and just a measurement in time or even existence! Still I digress, what is meant to be here is a very simple Happy New Year to all of you readers out there, of which I’m aware there are at least two of you. Also I hope you had a fantastic Christmas and got everything you asked for!

Right then, pleasantries over, now time for business. It has been a few months since I last posted anything on here, and there have been many developments in different areas of my life. So try try and keep you updated here goes:

Website

Well after about three or four redesigns I think I may have the look for nee-nah.com right! For those of you who don’t know I have one or two different blogs and photo galleries online and decided a while back to make my domain, nee-nah.com the index site for all of these. So please feel free to pop over and see what you can see, eh!

Railways & Photography

So this has been a tad up and down on both fronts, as ultimately my photography rarely goes on with out my interest in railways taking president, however I did take some nice pics, in all that snow we had over the festive period, which can be found on my MobileMe Gallery.

The Railways and Photography has taken a dip in the latter parts of the year with very little in the way of trips out through September to December. Other than a delightful visit to Freightliner Crewe Basford Hall organized by Phoenix Railtours. So good in fact that I will be frequenting the site again in the next two weeks as I have a visit also planned on January 15th!

On the hardware front I have purchased myself a new digital compact, in the form of the Sony CyberShot DSC HX5V, very nice as well as a new pair of binoculars, Bushnell H20 10×42. And to top it all off at Christmas a Jessops FlashGun for my Canon EOS DSLR. New toys ahoy! Just need to test them out now, will be doing that very soon especially with the bins at Toton.

NYE AKA

The above simply meaning New Years Eve Also Known As. Marc’s new bar which opened  before Christmas in the old site of Yates. And low and behold I did DJ on NEw Years Eve to  pub full of real people who payed to go in! Did feel good after about 10 years, but hey you never loose it!

Smoking is Cool

Again I refer you to an older post of mine, whereI quit smoking. This did not last for long. As a new years resolution I am starting again, and so far I am doing OK, nearly 3 whole days and no cravings, and Im not even using patches!!!! so will I endeavor to stay uncool forever, we will see, watch this pace peeps!

2011…

So for this year there is much to look forward too, A life with out fags,  which in turn should give me more cash!  An exciting year ahead at work, me hopes and much more including something very new, which will be elaborated upon here in the near future.

So thank you for reading this silly little blog, I surely does not help you in life but I think it may help me somewhat, only slightly in trying to explain myself.

Till later on, bye bye!

Recent Activity

Hello there readers of my blog, I hope that I find you well? Just thought I best update whats going on with me and a very important milestone!

The very important milestone first me thinks. Regular reader of this poor excuse for a blog, and anybody who knows me, will know I have a bit of a sad obsession with Motorways. Not sure to this day as why I do but still I will endeavour to continue…

Anyway I have beaten my record of motorways in one day! More information regarding why I do this can be found on an older post here. My previous record of 11 has now well and truly been smashed! 14 motorways in one day!!! The day in question was Wednesday 25th August when I had to go up to St Andrews in Scotland for work, via Bury on the way. so the completer list is as follows:

M40, M42, M6, M56, M60, M66, M65, M61, A 74(M), M74, M73, M80, M9, M90

Good work indeed for me, albeit a very very long day. To beat this is definitely going to take something very special!!!

Anyway onto something completely different. My photography has been very low on the radar the last month and certainly need to improve and submit some more images for publication. However I have been published but by someone else! Strange yes i’m sure it is but please read on.

I recently picked up this months copy of Railways Illustrated, a monthly insight int0 everything I enjoy about my hobby, I open up to the editorial a few pages in and what do I see but a picture of me with other ‘enthusiasts’ at a recent open day held by DRS at its Crewe Gresty Lane Depot. This was a bit of a shock as I have myself taken images of Trainspotters and put them on a web gallery and even blogged about it before. It seems that the tables are now changed! I did send the picture below to a good friend and his reply was very funny, simply stating that I had “unfortunately cunningly disguised myself as me”

So until next time, keep an eye on my twitter feed, tumblr blog, facebook and flickr as its my birthday soon and Im sure that there will be pics of me being out and about all drunk and so on!

Be Cool Peeps!

Thanks…

I Just thought I would say a little thank you to my good friend Magic Moir. Because of his comments on a previous post, he gave me inspiration to submit some recent photos for publication. It has paid off as I have once again had a photo published. Again it is in The Railway Herald, so no payment as its a free magazine, but still its all good. So a big thanks to you sir, you have helped me get my third image published.

Nice one sir, nice one.

This is the image below, click on it to get more info on my Flickr page:

Hello!

Alas, I have failed you again, yes you the reader/observer of this my attempt at blogging more than pictures!

I unreservedly apolagise to you, the reader. If there is any of you out there that is???

Anyway as mentioned above, I’ve been away for a while. Holiday for one and in the wordpress wilderness. Work does have a lot to do with this, being ever so much busier. Also my other more geeky hobby has to be fair distracted me from updating this.

However as I sit here at home awaiting the clock to hit 18:00 when I must get back to work and down to London town, I have decided to keep you informed of my goings on and try to write a half decent blog. This may not be achieved on either front, but I will try.

There are a few issues which must be addressed for those of you who follow this blog and are keen to know how certain things are progressing.

  • I have another Premier Inn to add to my ongoing list – not interesting!
  • I adore the new iPhone 4 and iPad but alas have not even touched either, let alone purchased said items.
  • ALL of the TV I watch and enjoy has ended for good or come to its seasons end, 24, Lost, Doctor Who, Glee, Desperate Housewives, Cougar Town….
  • The no smoking has had a relapse, although the exercise is improving.
  • Im not submitting photos to railway magazines for publication, and I don’t know why? Laziness I suppose.
  • The World Cup has come and gone, England were useless, and the whole world now has discovered one of the most annoying man made objects since time began, the vuvuzella!!
  • My first and only car I have owned is no more, having got rid of the old Fiesta to the scrap merchant for a measly £40.

Most of the above seem to be very negative, however I feel very happy and not down in the slightest. Im not sure as to why?

Still, good times are among us, on the 31st July I will be celebrating with my wife our first wedding anniversary, a milestone for sure!

Early September see’s my birthday creep up again, 31 this year! Even better news on that subject, a few weeks ago a few people guessed my age and I was told I looked 25-27 years old. Result!

Im sure I will get very sad and geeky and verging on major camp-ness with The X Factor return in a few months, which will unfortunately lead us to Christmas!! Be wary soon as you see those ads on ITV, you know that the year is coming to an end, so get you jumpers ready.

This brought me to another though after looking back at some older photos the other day, I feel I may bring back the roll-neck this winter? thoughts would be welcome.

I feel that this blog may have opened the floodgates a little, and one hopes that I will return to here and keep you all enthralled with future posts. Time will tell.

Until that time, please feel free to get in touch by leaving a comment or two below, it’s always nice to know that these ramblings are being read by someone.

    Long Time , No See

Well that’s to all of you who may happen to read this poor attempt at a blog! Hope everything is all good in your world? There has been lots happening in mine and will try and fill you in on these below. Now I’m sure I will miss some bits and bobs but will endevour to come back and add them later.

Firstly is the lack of keeping this updated. I have no excuse, I have had plenty of free time over the last couple of months, but have found myself occupied with other things. I have however been keeping my Twitter and Tumblr Blog up to date, so please take a look to see my daily ramblings and where I’ve been recently.

First off Smoking. I had mentioned in a previous post that I had attempted to give up the old fags! Well as of today I have gone 8 weeks without one! Well done to me! It has been very hard and especially whilst out and about with everyone else chuffing away! But I’ve stayed strong and resisted, I hopefully will be smoke free forever! I have been going down the patches route and as of tomorrow will be on the final 2 week lowest dose!

Now with not smoking you may think that I have had loads of money to myself and find myself in a new financial situation. Well the answer is yes and no, the problem is you see that I have always been crap with money and if I have it I will spend it! So with all this extra cash I have been investing in many things. Cd’s, DVD’s, Books and model trains! (More about his later, maybe not today!)

But this has now stopped, I have succeeded in not buying crap food whilst out with work and from now on this is the testing times, do not go crazy when I look at the bank balance. There are many things on the iwant list for the future, a new compact camera, a new lens for my SLR and a holiday would be nice, The US has been calling me and the wife recently, may have to go back to good old NYC!

But I have my feet firmly on the ground and trying to be a sensible, mature grown up! Lets see if this continues!

On the geek front, a few updates I am now the proud owner of two iPhones, al be it one of them is a work one but now I am all powerful in the world of mobiles! The obsession with Fox’s Glee continues and am eagerly awaiting the new episodes in around two weeks time!

This then brings me onto a small matter of another television great returning. The Doctor! Yes on Saturday Doctor Who returns with Matt Smith in all its HD glory on the BBC. To say i’m a bit excited like a little boy would be an understatement. I’m sure my good friend Magic Moir will also be counting down the days, hours and minutes until this occasion. Cant wait to have a good old geeky chat with him about it. Also the last few episodes of Lost which he is also an avid fan. Will we ever know why, what and why all of that ever happened????

    Mind The Gap

On the other major geek front, railways, I have been a busy little spotter with a couple of trips already in the bag this moth with plenty of photos being taken, many of which can be found on my flickr page. I have also taken a route down to the darkside of railway enthusiasts and returned to spotting wagons. I used to do this many years ago in the early 90’s, but I have found that if you end up owning a book of them, you will spot! Still it has given me a fresh enthusiasm for my hobby, whatever you feel, I’m happy!

So I think thats about it not to go on too much, just another insight to what is going on with me. Oh and I still have not started exercising, but will try within the next week or two to go out running and on the pushbike more.

So until then I bid you all farewell

    Improving

I’m always keen to keep improving my photography, be it shots of people, buildings, trains whatever. So with this in mind a me trying to expand my range of different shots, I have invested in a book to help and guide me.

Now it is centred around Digital Railway Photography, but it is a fascinating read, it’s opening my eyes up to new opportunities, with simple tips, tricks and so on. Later on it also has a large section on editing digital images through Photoshop. Not got to that bit as yet but I’m sure it will be as interesting.

Let’s hope it will bring me some interesting and successful results, so watch this space.

    Night Photos

As the title suggests this entry is all about shooting stuff at night, no not animals with a gun but stuff with my lens and camera. Now in the past I’ve been successful with my point and push compact but that has been whilst out and about drinking. Most of the results are exactly what I wanted, slightly blurred and with lights all over the place.

However I have been out tonight with my DSLR and tripod to catch some pics down the railway station in the dark. I’ve had a somewhat mixed success. Now when the trains were standing still I had not so much of a problem, when there moving at slow speed that is when the problems occur. Now I know that i’m restricted here as my EOS 400 D only goes to an ISO setting of 1600, but I have seen many pics on the internet at 3200 ISO in the dark which are OK. What I need to find out is how to catch stuff whilst moving at high ISO settings. What speed, what aperture setting??? There is such a book available on the subject and me thinks come pay day it will be ordered.

Until then I will continue to experiment…

    Update

Hello there and happy 2010. Thought it was time to update the blog here, it has been a while and so much has happened! Much of which I was planning to talk about on here, but alas time has been against me and I have not done so.

So here goes, a quick roundup of what has been happening; Christmas, New Year, First Railway Picture Published, The End of the 10th Doctor; Apple Time Capsule & Magic Mouse

Anyway I may well go back to some of these later in depth. But if you click on some of the topics they will take you through to a relevant page and /or blog which may explain in a bit more detail.

Anyway hope this has kept you all in check, I will now will endeavour to expand more on my random ramblings and will try to improve my writing style.
